Tlokwe‘s independent candidates in the North West have launched their election manifesto ahead of the August 3 municipal polls.
About 34 independent candidates have registered for elections in Potchefstroom and Ventersdorp.
They’ve also introduced their mayoral candidate.
Independent Mayoral Candidate, David Kham says their manifesto is based on accountability, transparency and service delivery.
“We are talking about good governance in councillors taking their responsibility in ensuring that issues of financial management are attended to. On delivery, we are saying we are going rule out cadre deployment in local government. It’s about skilful people – it’s about people with capacity.”
Some residents in the area have committed to voting for the independent candidates, saying they trust them.
“The reason why I will vote for the first time ever in local government elections and vote for an independent councillor is because we are excluded in the bursary in Tlokwe, only few individuals are benefiting from the municipality such as those who have a good relationship with the mayor and senior management and other staff,” says one resident.
