The ANC’s Deputy Chairperson in Mpumalanga, Violet Siwela, has called for political tolerance amongst the party’s councillors during this year’s Local Government Elections.
The past few weeks have been marred by a lot of tensions at the branch levels of the ANC as there were some disagreements on the candidate’s nomination lists.
Deputy Chairperson of the party’s branch in Pienaar outside Mbombela, Michael Phelembe, was gunned down in his drive way.
However, Siwela says they are happy with the list they have submitted to the IEC.
“The ANC as the most democratic organisation has once again demonstrated that it is the most movement that champions democracy. Not just in theory but also in practice. Over the past five years we have had our ears on the ground listening to community’s struggles that they are faced with at the local government levels. In response to one of the most pressing challenges was how councillors were elected into office.”
