Maimane insists Zille is not in charge of DA

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane has rejected assertions that his authority was undermined following reports that Western Cape Premier Helen Zille had to be roped in to convince Eastern Cape DA Chairperson Veliswa Mvenya not to resign from the DA.
Maimane faced the question when he held a media briefing in parliament on the DA’s candidates list for the upcoming municipal elections.
There were media reports that Mvenya’s resignation was sparked by tensions between herself and DA provincial leader Athol Trollip.
Maimane says, “The role of Miss Zille is totally different; she has to lead the province. So, from time to time, I assess her to make sure she does her job as Premier of the Western Cape. She serves in some of our structures and help with list processes, but to suggest that she is running the organisations, hey Batho ba Modimo! You can’t dream up more nonsense than that. I mean really; its quite absurd what people write about.”
