EFF continues with election campaign

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) continues with its local government election campaign in KwaZulu-Natal.

Party leader Julius Malema and senior party members will take their campaign to Pietermaritzburg and Umlazi south of Durban on Sunday.

On Saturday police had to use rubber bullets to stop stone throwing incidents between followers of the EFF and the African National Congress (ANC) in a confrontation at Esikhaleni near Richards Bay on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast.

Both parties blamed each other for starting the chaos. Dozens of members of both parties were injured.

The ANC says they were in the area to protect their memorial site of their members who died in the political violence of the 1980’s.

On the other hand the EFF claimed that the ANC members were trying to stop them from campaigning in the area.
