ANC accused of meddling with candidates list

Newtown community members at Postmasburg in the Northern Cape are accusing the African National Congress (ANC) in the province of meddling with the candidates nomination list processes.

The nominated candidates are expected to be elected as ward councillors, depending on the party’s performance on the upcoming Local Government Elections.

Community members say the party nominated Marike Daniels who does not reside in the area, and is against the community’s wishes.

The party’s branch chairperson in Newtown, Slang Kasper says that Patricia Rooifontein should be nominated as she understands challenges plaguing the area.

Kasper says, “They must come back to us. They never came back to say comrades here’s the candidates, lets go back to the community and they must decide of these four people who will be the councillor. So they decided already in Upington and said guys look here, here’s your councillor. We sent a dispute they never came back to us.”
