EFF unfazed by treason charges against Malema

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has dismissed a criminal case opened against party leader, Julius Malema, by the newly formed National People’s Ambassadors party. National People’s Ambassadors party leaders have opened a case of treason against Malema.

The party laid criminal charges against Malema at the weekend, following the EFF’s call on the South African National Defence Force to get President Jacob Zuma to step down.

The National People’s Ambassadors are a new party formed in 2015. They claim to have a presence in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.

However, the EFF is unperturbed by the newcomer party. According to spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, the National People’s Ambassadors are “political non-starters”.

The National Peoples Ambassador’s Party says it has over 20 000 supporters and is registered with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to contest the upcoming local government elections.

IEC officials say they are not aware of the case which has been opened against the EFF. However, electoral authorities say the electoral court is best placed to hear such disputes.
