The Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane has promised to increase jobs in Midvaal in the Vaal Triangle if local voters keep the party in power in the August 3 municipal elections. Maimaine delivered the party’s manifesto at Meyerton.
He says unemployment should not feature in a democratic South Africa. “It can’t be right that in the city of Johannesburg instead of increasing jobs, they are decreasing jobs. It can’t be right that Ekurhuleni rated number one as far as having lost jobs. This change must be a change that brings jobs for the people of South Africa,” says Maimaine.
Mayor of the DA-run Midvaal Municipality in Gauteng, Bongani Baloyi says the party will establish a youth-driven municipality. The 28-year-old mayor – the youngest in the country was also delivering his manifesto ahead of local elections on the 3rd of August.
“We will be a youth biased community, that simply means we will put young people at the centre of everything we do. What is a society that can expand when its youth cannot find jobs we will champion initiatives such as Gatelo pele youth co-operative projects that will assist in tackling the problem of unemployment. Amongst young people specifically in Midvaal,” says Baloyi.
