Creation of jobs and curbing corruption will be the top priorities for Democratic Alliance (DA) governed municipalities in Mpumalanga.
This as the party is optimistic that it will govern some municipalities in the province after elections.
The DA held its provincial Manifesto launch in KaNyamazane outside Nelspruit.
Gearing up for the local government elections, the DA is promising a better life for the people of Mpumalanga.
“We will start by making sure that the right people are appointed at municipalities because you find that there are no engineers and so on, and also the issue of water, how do you expect people to survive without water, those are some of the things we will look into,” says DA Mpumalanga leader, James Masongo
The party says it’s not only making inroads in Mpumalanga, it’s also expecting to perform well in other provinces as well.
Initiatives are underway to ensure that DA run municipalities deliver basic services.
“We are already training our people to ensure that when we win a municipality, we are ready to govern. Those are some of the strategies we have, when we take over we will just implement, we won’t be thinking about how to run a municipality,” says Jabulani Baloyi, Midvaal Municipality Mayor.
With less than three months to go to the elections it remains to be seen whether the party will gain control of more municipalities.
For now though its focus is on garnering more support.
