Gauteng not pleased to be perceived as anti-Zuma: Mashatile

African National Congress (ANC) Gauteng chairperson Paul Mashatile has commended the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) for its handling of the recent Nkandla ruling in the Constitutional Court.

The Gauteng PEC at the time accepted President Jacob Zuma’s apology regarding the Public Protector’s recommendations on Nkandla, but called on him to do the right thing.

Speaking at the ANC provincial general conference in Pretoria on Friday night, Mashatile said the province has always dealt with issues on the basis of principle, discussing them openly without fear or favour.

He says the ANC in Gauteng was not pleased to be perceived as anti-Zuma over its pronouncements on the Nkandla issue.

The PEC accepted the apology of the President but went further and said he must reflect on the matter and do the right thing, however, the PEC has also allowed branches to discuss the matter and express their own views.
