Mbete urges workers to circulate ANC’s election manifesto

African National Congress (ANC) national chairperson, Baleka Mbete has called on members of the ANC alliance partners to circulate the party’s local government election manifesto to communities.

Mbete was among ANC officials who attended the Mpumalanga Workers’ Day celebration at Acornhoek Stadium in Bushbuckridge.

She urged the alliance to be united to help the ANC to lead the country.

“Moving towards a national democratic society, [it] is very important for us to be alert to the need for us to continuously remind ourselves that, we must never take our relationships for granted, and that also we must not take the relationship between us and our people on the ground for granted,” explains Mbete.

While the country observed Workers’ day, some workers feel they are still being exploited in various working environments.
Some say they are still living with low wages while companies are making a lot of revenue.

“Our union should avoid political things and focus more on workers. I do not take this day serious that is why you see me at home.
I’m working at the RDP houses contracts, but we are getting small money and also the working conditions are not good. So what would I be celebrating? This this is being politicised,” says one worker at the Workers’ Day rally held at Lichtenburg in the North West Province.

Meanwhile, President Jacob Zuma delivered a keynote address on Workers’ Day in Mamelodi, Pretoria.
