The ANC wants to turn municipalities into employment hubs for young people.
In their local government elections manifesto which is being launched today, the ANC says it will be expanding its Community Work Programme to extend work opportunities to the youth.
The party will also be supporting local and small businesses by tweaking procurement processes.
In their door-to-door campaign this week, senior ANC members have been confronted with questions about job creation particularly for young people.
High unemployment rates both among unskilled youth and graduates have resulted in many languishing at home.
The party says in the next five years, it will be ensuring that all municipalities develop special programs targeting youth cooperatives and enterprises.
It also wants to promote local procurement of goods and services, support small and medium businesses with the creation of a centralized government procurement system. Young people who are looking for employment will be included in the expanded Community Work Programme.
