Nelson Mandela Bay covered in ANC colours

The Nelson Mandela Bay stadium is engulfed in green, gold and black ahead of the ANC Manifesto launch.

ANC supporters in their thousands are currently descending on the Port Elizabeth-based Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium where President Jacob Zuma will give the key address later on Saturday.

Several ANC members were already seen camping outside the stadium on Friday night to ensure they secure their seats.

Cars and shops around the stadium all bear ANC colours. Hundreds of buses and taxis from different parts of the country are dropping people off outside the stadium.

Members wearing the party’s regalia are already inside singing struggle songs. Traffic has also been disrupted as a number of roads around the stadium are closed. The party is expecting over a 100 000 people to attend and over flow areas have been created around the 47 000 seater stadium.

Meanwhile, Eastern Cape Premier Phumulo Masualle says it is inspiring to see the support from the party’s members.

“We have seen them streaming in to the Nelson Mandela Bay very early on during the week. People want to be part of this launch of this manifesto. It is quite encouraging, it is also quite reassuring the confidence that people here have on the ANC. Indeed it is inspiring.”

Masualle says that the ANC is confident that it will retain the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and Buffalo City during the local government elections

“From what I have heard and what I have seen amongst the people as we were criss-crossing the Nelson Mandela Bay areas, there is an overwhelming sense of readiness that the ANC is going to emerge victorious here, in Buffalo City as well.”
