Scores expected at ANC’s manifesto launch

More than 100 000 African National Congress (ANC) supporters are expected to descend on the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium for the launch of the party’s local government elections manifesto.

President Jacob Zuma will give the main address at the event, which will launch the ruling party’s electioneering period.

The ANC is launching its manifesto in the hotly contested metro. The party managed to scrape 48.5% of the vote in the 2014 national election.

They are not leaving anything to chance. The ANCs want to net a decisive majority in a metro that has been difficult for anyone to crack.

However, party spokesperson Zizi Kodwa says they stand to win. “If you look at Ipsos survey last year, the ANC was put at 50% and DA at 10% and following the week-long door-to-door campaign the organisation has reason to be confident as the community is loyal to the party.”

Thousands of people are expected to attend the launch which upon conclusion will turn into a concert.
