Tau flee as angry residents pelt him with stones

Johannesburg Mayor Parks Tau had to twice flee from stones being thrown in his direction by angry protestors in Orange Farms south of Johannesburg on Tuesday afternoon.

Today marks the second day of protests along the Golden Highway which have resulted in heavy traffic delays.

The community claims their local African National Congress (ANC) councillor is enriching himself at their expense.

They demanded to hand over a list of their demands to Tau in the hope that he will take action.

Mayor Tau says they will investigate the allegations.

“Well, the first thing is we take every allegation, and take it into account. We have asked the ANC regional secretary to join us in these discussions, so he’ll process the issues through the ANC structures and processes on matters of conduct of counsellors and allegations,” adds Tau.

“But there’s also organisational issues that we need to address, differences in an organisation that sometimes need to be resolved, and we’ll ensure cause as you could see, different parts of the community were representing different views, and it’s important that we bring communities together,” he explains.
