Parties meet ahead of Zuma’s impeachment debate

Leaders of various opposition parties are meeting ahead of a debate to remove President Jacob Zuma from office.

The African National Congress (ANC) caucus will also meet. The political parties’ meetings comes ahead of the debate.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) brought the motion for the debate following a landmark Constitutional Court ruling that found President Zuma failed to protect the Constitution because he did not comply with the Public Protector’s recommendations in her Nkandla report.

ANC Secretary-General, Gwede Mantashe is expected to hold a crucial meeting with the entire ANC caucus in Parliament.

Leaders of opposition parties will also meet to come up with their plans ahead of the debate.

SABC has learnt that the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) will not support the DA’s motion because it will be fruitless exercise as the ANC has the numbers to block the motion with their majority vote.

However, IFP Chief Whip Narend Singh would not confirm saying the party caucus still has to decide whether to support the motion or not.
