ANC National Working Committee to meet

The African National Congress’ National Working Committee will on Monday hold an extended meeting which is also opened to the ruling party’s National Executive Committee members.

The meeting is expected to reflect on latest developments and challenges facing the organisation ahead of the Local Government Elections.

It comes amid growing calls within and outside the party for President Jacob Zuma to step down.

This is after the Constitutional Court ruled that the remedial actions of the Public Protector are binding and that the President failed to uphold, protect and defend the Constitution when he failed to pay back the money for the non-security features at his Nkandla home.

President Zuma has since apologised.

ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe dismissed as an exaggeration on-going calls by the opposition parties for the President to be impeached.

He says they have welcomed his apology and the fact that he has humbled himself before the nation.

“On Monday we will go to the NWC because we think the issues we are talking about are weighty, we will extended it to every NEC member who can attend must attend because we believe in collective wisdom of more brains.”
