DA announces James Letuka as mayoral candidate in Free State

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Free State has announced James Letuka as its mayoral candidate in Mangaung Metro Municipality for the local government elections.

He is a member of provincial legislature and a former member of the Black Consciousness Movement (BCM).

Letuka helped BCM leader Steve Biko, who was killed by apartheid security forces in 1977, to form the South African Student Organization in the 1960s.

Letuka’s candidacy is aimed at boosting the DA’s goal of attracting the black electorate.

Letuka says he will use the next 50 days to visit Mangaung residents and help develop the DA’s election manifesto.

“We are prepared to go and develop a manifesto that will be a citizen based. It will not be a manifesto that is super imposed on the people, but a manifesto that develops from the wishes of the people,” says Letuka.
