A warm embrace from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has rekindled hopes that new African National Congress’s (ANC) Chief Whip Jackson Mthembu could help end chaotic scenes in Parliament.
EFF Chief Whip Floyd Shivhambu, who wished Mthembu well, says despite Mthembu’s shortcomings, he is the right person for the job who may assist parliament to hold the executive to account
Shivambu says, “We note that because he is in the National Executive leadership of the ruling party and I think in its executive committee as well. So I think he well positioned to could speak to some of the executive members without being undermined, because that imbalance in terms of organisational leadership and Parliamentary leadership is the one that is contributing to Parliamentary dysfunction on the part of the ANC because most of the whips who are supposed to hold the executive accountable, they are politically junior and unelected leaders in the structures of the ruling party.”
