The South African Communist Party in the North West has called on ANC Provincial Chairperson and Premier, Supra Mahumapelo, to refrain from defending the Gupta family.
This comes after Mahumapelo praised the Gupta family during his State of the Province Address.
He said the family was contributing to the growth of the county’s economy and the province by creating jobs through their businesses.
The call by the Communist Party follows the recent claims of Gupta influence on cabinet appointments.
We have elected the NEC members, we have elected PEC members, their responsibility is to pursue the revolutionary agenda of the ANC
SACP Provincial Secretary Madoda Sambatha says, “The Guptas defence must be the responsibility of the Gupta family. It has nothing to do with the African National Congress.”
Sambatha has also appealed to the ANC national leadership meeting at Irene outside Pretoria, to take a decision to warn party leaders not to falling into a trap of being used by the Gupta family.
“We have elected the NEC members, we have elected PEC members, their responsibility is to pursue the revolutionary agenda of the ANC. In actual fact in the centre of that is to fight state capture and if state capture in South Africa predominantly present itself through group Guptas then Guptas become the first target of people who we must deal with preventing the state capture.”
Meanwhile, there is no indication yet of what is being discussed at the African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee meeting in Irene, south of Pretoria.
The ANC said earlier that the issue of the Gupta family’s alleged influence was not officially on the agenda.
