ANC NEC meeting expected to be heated

The African National Congress (ANC) is expected to tackle what is being termed ‘state capture’ by business, in particular the Gupta family, at its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting starting in Irene outside Pretoria on Friday.

The NEC meeting is expected to be heated as there are said to be divisions over the Gupta family’s influence on the ruling party.

This comes amidst allegations that the family offered senior ANC members cabinet posts and pressured ministers on key policy decisions to suit their business ventures.

ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe says he expects frank discussions.

“I think if we have all eyes on fire, we will miss fire, here we are dealing with cooperate culture threatening the movement, country. Let us deal with this.
