COPE opens treason case against Zuma and Gupta’s

The Congress of the People (COPE) has opened a case of corruption and treason against President Jacob Zuma and the Gupta family in the Brooklyn Police Station in Pretoria.

This comes after Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas revealed that the Gupta family had offered him the position of Finance Minister when President Zuma sacked Nhlanhla Nene in December last year.

“We want the police to arrest Mr. Zuma and the Gupta’s. We want them to appear in court so that they must have their day in court. The Gupta’s are saying Jonas must say these things under oath, the court is the correct platform, that’s why we want the police to arrest them,” says COPE’s Dennis Bloom.

Meanwhile, African National Congress spokesperson Zizi Kodwa says it cannot be business as usual after claims that the Gupta family has been influencing the appointment of cabinet ministers.

Kodwa says the ANC will decisively deal with the allegations against the Gupta family and seek to restore confidence in the party.
