MPLs to debate Gauteng SOPA

Gauteng Premier David Makhura’s plans for the province will come under scrutiny on Thursday when members of the Provincial Legislature debate his State of the Province Address.

On Monday, Makhura announced massive infrastructure investments and also vowed to clamp down on corruption.

While admitting that the province had not performed well in the delivery of housing, he said Gauteng is doing well economically, despite the global economic challenges.

Makhura says R7.2 billion will be spent to upgrade and expand all major roads over the next three years.

He says despite the global and domestic economic environment, Gauteng’s economy has enormous potential to create more jobs and grow in an inclusive manner.

While the Economic Freedom Fighters were kicked out for disrupting the state of the province address, other opposition parties have expressed mixed views.

The Democratic Alliance says it will reveal the true state of the Gauteng economy, unemployment and service delivery backlogs.
