COPE against Sadtu’s early dismissal of learners

Congress of the People (COPE) in the Northern Cape has condemned action by the South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) of dismissing learners early and convening union meetings during school hours.

The teachers’ union has called a meeting of all teachers to discuss the new tax law.

COPE National Chairperson Pakes Dikgetsi says the action taken by Sadtu is unprofessional and hampers teaching and learning.

“What we now see is especially in your formally black schools and formerly coloured schools that Sadtu is holding the education of the children at hostage. So we cannot allow a situation where the education of especially the disadvantaged children those who cannot afford, those who do not have the power to speak for themselves must be sacrificed by the actions of Sadtu.”
