With the State of the Nation Address 2016 (SONA) behind us, we spoke to some members of Parliament to find out what they thought about Thursday’s proceedings.
Speaker Baleke Mbete handling of proceedings:
The Democratic Alliance’s (DA’s) John Steenhuisen, Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF’s) Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and United Democratic Movement’s (UDM’s) Nqabayomzi Kwankwa say Mbete did not handle the process accordingly and failed to showcase fairness across the board.

The EFF’s Ndlozi says that Mbete is conflicted and, in many instances, is put in a difficult position to protect the individuals of the ANC, particularly the President.

The UDM’s Kwankwa says Mbete recognised the African National Congress (ANC) members almost immediately. However, the EFF members had to “beg and plead for the speaker to recognise them.”
