Buthelezi describes security arrangements in Parliament as excessive

Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Leader Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi has described the security arrangements at Parliament as excessive and borders around paranoia.

This comes after he had to undergo strict police security checks before he could be allowed to enter the Parliamentary precinct.

The security has been tightened ahead of Thursday’s State of the Nation Address by President Jacob Zuma.

“I think that the arrangements that have been made, for me who has been here for more than 20 years, are quite excessive. And I think they amount to abusing us because even at my age to get off the car and carry my bags and walk a long distance with my guard, while the dogs still had to go through my car to search for bombs and whatever. I think the arrangements are an overkill and borders around paranoia.”
