African National Congress National Executive Committee members are crisscrossing the Western Cape with a voter registration campaign. Door-to-door campaigns are preceding the President’s State of the Nation Address.
A promise you make, is a promise you keep, that is the reminder of Delft residents to Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa.
“Last year 18 February, he was here in the area and promised the people that each and every house is going to get a solar geyser and it must be done within 6 months and after a year there is no geyser,” says community leader Jacky Ockhuizen .
Bheki Cele has committed to follow up on the complaint with the Deputy President. Other house-owners lamented cracks and burst water pipes.
This is after taking occupation less than a year ago.
“Generally people are on the satisfied side that they have moved from the shacks, most of them to come here and they raise the issue that at least when rains come they will sleep peacefully rather than think. Come the middle of the night, you will find yourself half in the water. So there are things they are raising but the bigger section of them are in the satisfied side,” says NEC member Bheki Cele.
Other NEC members failed to honour their engagements in Gugulethu and Khayelitsha. The NEC is expected to be in the province until Sunday.
