Disciplinary steps to be taken against Truman Prince

The Central Karoo region of the African National Congress (ANC) is set to institute disciplinary steps against Beaufort West Mayor, Truman Prince starting on Wednesday. Provincial and regional officials met Prince on Tuesday.

Prince is said to have issued letters that tenders be given to businesses aligned to the ANC. He also faces criminal charges for allegedly assaulting a female traffic officer.

The ANC in the Western Cape says the allegations are serious and the National Executive Committee (NEC) wants the matter to be dealt with speedily.

According to Acting Provincial Chairperson, Khaya Magaxa, “The disciplinary committee is meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) to start some preliminary process and on Thursday it will conclude the matter. The regional structure of the ANC is serious about this matter. The fact that we call them to update us is because of our acknowledgement of the seriousness of the issue at a national level. Leadership is also anxious in seeing us dealing with this matter.”

Prince is expected to know his fate before the end of the week. He has not been available for comment. The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called for Prince to be sacked and has lodged criminal complaints.

Prince became mayor in Beaufort West following his return to the ANC in 2011
