ANC calls for dismissal of DA mayor in George Municipality

The African National Congress in the Western Cape has called for the immediate dismissal of the Democratic Alliance Mayor in the George Municipality, Charles Stander, for allegedly assaulting his wife.

Police have confirmed that a charge of domestic violence has been laid at the Conville Police Station.

It is believed that the incident took place at the couple’s home following an argument over car keys.

“We will move for the immediate dismissal of the DA’s municipality mayor Charles Standers for brutally assaulting his wife, violating the domestic violence act and subjecting her to forms of abuse. We have to state it categorically that no man has a right to raise his hand to woman for any reason and we hope that the DA takes this seriously and should have no tolerance for violence against women,” says ANC provincial spokesperson Yonela Diko.

DA strongly condemns any violence against women and children

DA constituency head in the Southern Cape, Jaco Londt, says they are addressing the issue.

“The DA strongly condemns any violence against women and children. The councillor involved denies all allegations against him. The party has taken steps and they will announce those steps taken in the next few hours,” says Londt.
