The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and Democratic Alliance (DA) have called for political accountability following the recommendation to suspend National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
IPID says that Phiyega should be charged for her role in the Marikana tragedy.
The police watchdog says it’s now up to the National Prosecuting Authority to make a final decision on Phiyega.
The directorate has suggested that Phiyega, former North West police commissioner, Zukiswa Mbombo, and two other senior police officials should be charged with defeating the ends of justice.
