ANCYL calls for SACP senior official to resign

The ANC Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal has called on the SACP’s provincial secretary to resign.
The call comes after the provincial SA Community Party (SACP) announced last week that it had withdrawn all of its members in local government election processes that are underway.
The party will suspend any participation until there is a national political intervention after two people were killed during a SACP meeting in Inchanga.
“The youth league understands that such a decision was advocated by a lobby group within the PEC [provincial executive committee] led by Comrade Themba Mthembu, the current provincial secretary of the SACP and ironically a member of the provincial legislature representing the African National Congress,” the ANCYL said in a statement.
“If Comrade Mthembu and his cronies believe that the SACP must take no further part in the process then he must lead from the front and resign from the legislature.”
“It is the view of the ANCYL that the SACP as an organisation is a valuable member of this alliance – but at the hands of hypocrites like the ones we see today who purport to stand on high moral ground and refer to fellow comrades as criminals whilst their own characters remain questionable, the future of the party looks bleak.”
