Mokonyane canvasses to keep Sarah Baartman District Municipality

African National Congress (ANC) Head of Elections and Campaigns, Nomvula Mokonyane, has urged party members to unite so that the party can retain the Sarah Baartman District Municipality in Local Government elections.

Mokonyane was addressing party members at Marselle Township at Kenton-on-Sea, near Port Alfred, Eastern Cape.

She says aspiring ward councillors should be elected based on their capability to serve the community.

“Every ward candidate of the African National Congress must be taken to the public so that communities can know who is going to represent the ANC, because (it’s) only the ANC that take the interest of the people at heart.”

Meanwhile, young people in attendance say they want the party to start delivering on their promises.

“We are saying it’s high time the ANC listened to the people. Take decisions upon what communities want. They must elect councillors that are biased to the needs of young people; those of youth development and to assist in building FET colleges.”
