Cosatu behind ANC’s LGE campaign despite pension fund quarrel

The Congress of the South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) may be at war with the ANC led government over the amended pension fund laws – but all is not lost ahead of the municipal elections.
The labour federation is forging ahead with mass action after President Jacob Zuma signed into law, the tax amendment act. From March 1, workers will only be able to cash in one third of their retirement savings while the balance will be paid out monthly.
Cosatu president Sdumo Dlamini says nothing has changed, they are behind the ANC for the upcoming local government elections.
“There is a Cosatu resolution amongst many Cosatu resolutions for us to mobilise for the victory of the ANC even in this coming local government elections. And we are beholden and we shall work and ensure that we do our task,” says Dlamini.
The federation met the ANC on Monday to find a solution but that meeting failed to avert Cosatu’s planned national strike.
