DA’s LGE confidence gets a boost after by-elections win

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says its victory in Wednesday’s by-elections in some parts of the country gives the party cause for optimism ahead of the 2016 Local Government Elections.
The DA won by-elections in the hotly-contested ward 16 in Rustenburg in the North West.
The party retained its seat after the resignation of its councillor.
DA Member of Parliament, Herman Groenewald, says, “When we look into the 2016 elections, I think that makes us very positive and we believe that this is a very good future, not only in the parts of Rustenburg, but all over each and every community.”
While the African National Congress (ANC) has welcomed the results, DA members have accused the ANC of using state vehicles to deliver food parcels to their volunteers at the voting stations.
The DA has since complained to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in the North West.
However, the ANC has dismissed the accusations levelled against them.
Provincial Spokesperson, Bridget Mogakwe, explains, “The accusations levelled by the Democratic Alliance are not true…We want to say as the ANC that people must remember that we are the ruling party and most of our people in government are empowered. We were delivering food parcels using the cars of the members of the African National Congress.”
