United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader Bantu Holomisa says whoever takes over from the imprisoned AbaThembu King Buylekhaya Dalindyebo should be from the Dalindyebo house.
This follows divisions within the AbaThembu traditional leaders, with some supporting the appointment of the king’s eldest son, Azenathi, while another group is opposing it.
King Dalindyebo is serving a 12 year jail term at Wellington Prison in Mthatha.
Holomisa says any attempt to usurp the Dalindyebo kingship is doomed to fail. “As people are aware, when we took over Transkei, we made it a point that the kingdom of Dalindyebo goes back to the rightful owner. King Dalindyebo was in exile at the time. Buyelekhaya – the current king – is the right king and anybody who tries to take the kingdom from the house is wasting his or her time.”
