Voting has started in Vuwani

Voting has started at some polling stations in Vuwani in Limpopo.

Some stations opened a bit late as Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) officials were still being escorted to the voting stations.

The Co-operative Governance Minister, Des van Rooyen and some MECs are in the area to monitor the situation.

Meanwhile, members of public order police are using the public works equipment to remove stones and other rubble that have been used to blockade the access the road to Vyeboom village in Vuwani, Limpopo.

Police are also clearing blockades that were preventing IEC officials to access some of the stations.

Vyeboom is one of the most volatile areas in Vuwani where residents have vowed to boycott municipal elections.

They are opposed to the incorporation of their area into a new municipality in the Vhembe district.

Members of the media have been deployed in numbers to closely monitor the situation.
