Election day all about the voter – Makhura

Gauteng Premier David Makhura says parties have done their part, but tomorrow is all about the voter.

Makhura was speaking to the SABC at the IEC Gauteng provincial centre in Auckland Park, Johannesburg.

Makhura says time for party campaigning is over and as the Premier of South Africa’s economic hub, he wanted to ensure voters about the measures of safety they have prepared as the province to make sure that Wednesday is a successful and peaceful election day.

“As the government here in Gauteng, we will do everything to ensure you exercise your right tomorrow, peacefully.”

The ANC currently runs three of the most populated municipalities in Gauteng, Johannesburg City, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni.

Some analysts and market polls suggest that Johannesburg and Tshwane could be hotly contested by the ANC and DA.

Makhura believes they have done enough as the party to retain both municipalities but maintains that, now, the focus should be on the voters.

He says the voters must come out in their numbers to vote for the party of their choice. “The final word tomorrow is with the voter.”

He also stressed his confidence in the IEC and believes the results from the polls will be a true reflection of our democratic processes.
