Muthambi urges all citizens to cast their ballots

Communications minister Faith Muthambi, who is also a member of the inter-ministerial team on Vuwani, has urged all citizens, including Vuwani residents to go and cast their ballots for the municipal elections.

Some potential voters in Vuwani say they fear for their safety.

Muthambi says it is vital that people cast their votes as the democracy that is being enjoyed in the country was hard earned.

“I want everybody to get out in numbers to just go and vote so that they get a government of their choice. So people express their views on what kind of government they want. It is a call for everybody people who are still at home must go and vote, this is the hard earned democracy the right to vote all of you know where we come from.”

The special voting in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga will continue on Tuesday with voting stations and home visits across the municipality.

Over 24 000 people cast their special votes in the area on Monday.

A number of elderly people in the Bushbuckridge area had an opportunity the cast their ballots since Monday in various parts of the municipality.

According to the IEC, Bushbuckridge has a high number of people registered for special votes.

Independent Electoral Commissions (IEC) provincial Electoral Commissioner Steve Ngwenya says:

“However, those people who have applied for special votes, whether they said we should visit them at home or whether they said they would come to the station on August 1 and 2, if they still have not voted they can still go to the station on Wednesday and they will be entitled to vote.”
