Home affairs extends working hours for voters

Department of Home affairs minister Malusi Gigaba says they have extended their working hours during the elections.

Speaking on Morning Live he says this is to ensure that every South African has a chance to cast their vote.

He says it is important that people support the voting process by coming out in their numbers.

“The extended working hours started on Saturday to accommodate those that have applied for smart ID cards and those who need to apply for temporary ID certificates,” says Gigaba.

On Tuesday the operating hours are 8:30 to 6pm and on Wednesday from 7am to 7pm.

Gigaba says the Wednesday 12 hour shift is to coincide with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) voting hours.
