SABC to link to all provinces digitally

South Africans will be casting their votes on Wednesday and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) teams are in the final stages of preparing to cover the events of the day.

SABC’s Election Project Manager Alan Visser says it has taken a year and a half to prepare for the Local Government Elections.

“Some of the equipment we have this time is very unique, particularly the high tech centre.”

Visser says unlike previous elections, the broadcaster has moved from using analogue to digital to link all provinces.

“We have put a lot of equipment that will allow us to digitally link to all the provinces in the country. In the past we have ran an analogue link.”

On the 3rd of August South Africans will be able to watch and listen live to the broadcast of election results on all SABC platforms.

Twenty six point three million South Africans have registered to vote for Wednesday’s elections, 11% more from the 2011 municipal elections.
