Fears of fuel shortages could affect LGE

Fears have been expressed that fuel shortages could affect Wednesday’s municipal elections.

Chemical, Energy, paper, Printing, Wood and Allied Workers Union (Ceppwawu) workers in the petroleum and pharmaceutical sectors have been on a wage strike since Thursday.

Despite employers ensuring motorists that contingency plans were in place, filling stations around the country have started running.

The strike came as news broke of a 99 cents a litre drop in the petrol price from Wednesday. Members of Ceppwawu are asking for a 9% increase while the employer is offering 7%.

Durban Chamber of Commerce president Zeph Ndlovu has called on unions and employers to resolve the strike for the sake of South Africa.
