Security authorities in KwaZulu-Natal are appealing to communities to assist with investigations into politically motivated killings in the province.
This comes as another African National Congress (ANC) candidate has been gunned down in the Ukhahlamba district.
Khanyisile Ngobese-Sibisi was gunned down in Ladysmith late on Monday. She was the Ukhahlamba regional secretary of the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL).
She was also the candidate for the ANC in the upcoming elections.
Her attack came just hours after the killing of Bongani Skhosana, the branch chairperson of the ANC in Harding.
He was also the councillor candidate for his party. Skhosana was preparing to transport children to school when attackers shot him dead in front of his wife.
“This shocked us as the family because he was a person that was willing to help everyone,” says family spokeperson Mdoda Skhosana.
The Hawks are investigating the killing and have asked communities not to hide the killers.
The ANC has condemned the killings.
