Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) has warned farmers against what it claims is a reluctance to release workers to vote in August 3 municipal elections.
The labour federation says it has visited several farms in Ventersdorp and Stella in North West where workers were allegedly refused time-off to vote in previous elections.
Cosatu says it will dispatch hundreds of members to farms on voting day to ensure that there’s compliance.
North West secretary, Job Dliso says:”We will take action against any employer or farmers who will deny workers to go exercise their rights.”
“We have identified many areas such as Stella, Grootmarico and Ventersdorp were workers at the last elections were not granted their rights to vote.”
“As Cosatu this time we will make sure that we take action so that all farm-workers should be release to go and vote.”
