Four major political parties have locked horns in the SABC Battlegrounds debate in Kimberley ahead of Local Government Elections in August.
Participants included representatives from the African National Congress (ANC), Democratic Alliance (DA), Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) and Congress of the People (Cope).
Mayor of the Sol Plaatjie Municipality Dave Molusi says they had been rated one of the most financially stable in the country.
“Sol Plaatjie Municipality has in fact done very well. We are considered amongst the better performing municipalities in South Africa. We are financially stable and we are rated amongst the top five viability by the Ratings Africa so there is no doubt that everybody should be voting for the African national Congress,” says Molusi.
The EFF’s Aubrey Baartman says there is a lack of service delivery in the municipality. “He is spending money wrongly. The budget of the Sol Plaatjie municipality is R1.8 billion and they are not spending it on service delivery. It’s time for change and we will make sure that this R1.8 billion is spent on basic services for our communities,” says Baartman.
