The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says no major administrative or technical hiccups have been experienced so far, as it winds up the registration of candidates for the August 3rd municipal polls.
The deadline for the submission of candidate nominations for all political parties or independent candidates is at five pm on Thursday.
The IEC says nominations may be submitted online, or by hand at local IEC offices in the municipality where candidates will be contesting the elections.
Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane says his party has managed to beat Thursday’s deadline for registration of candidates.
“We are in a drive to make sure that the best candidates are available. It’s the largest people of candidates that we have put together in every ward. We’ve chosen the best and drawn from all communities,” says Maimane.
