Tlokwe by-elections issue heads back to ConCourt

The contentious issue of by-elections in Tlokwe Local Municipality in the North West is set to go back to courts on Monday.

Opposition parties will again approach the Constitutional Court on Monday to complain about irregularities on the voter’s role.

They say approximately a 1000 names appearing on the voters role still do not have accompanying addresses. At the same time, they will approach the Electoral Court in an effort to bring an end to what they call the unfair utilisation of public resources.

Ahead of what is expected to be a highly contested by-elections, independent candidates and the Democratic Alliance (DA) are already crying foul.

However, the African National Congress (ANC) says that those who complain about irregularities are welcome to seek clarity from the courts.

The parties contesting the by-election met with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on Saturday, though it seems that their concerns was not addressed.

Parties were expected to do their last round of campaigning on Sunday, but it was only ANC members that were seen in different areas of Tlokwe.
