ANC Vhembe regional elective conference underway

The African National Congress (ANC) Vhembe regional elective conference has started in earnest outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo.

Party provincial spokesperson Donald Selamolela says the registration of delegates has been progressing smoothly since Saturday and is expected to be finalised on Sunday afternoon.

The conference was postponed on several occasions, with some members even seeking an urgent court interdict, but all in vain.

Selamolela says, “It is all systems go for the Vhembe regional conference, everything is in order, the delegates have registered the better part of yesterday (Saturday). The conference is going to be sitting now to adopt the final credentials and the conference will be resuming at around 11 o’clock this morning (Sunday). We’d anticipate that by the afternoon today towards late evening, they will start the process of electing officials and then from there tomorrow, we’ll finalise the business of conference.”

Postponements

Last month, the inaugural council sitting of the Vhembe District Municipality collapsed.

ANC councillors had requested for an adjournment as they were divided on the mayoral nominees.

Some ANC councillors were in favour of the former District Executive Mayor Dowelani Nenguda while the other faction wants the former Musina mayor, Mihloti Muhlophe, to be elected as a Mayor.
