African Transformation Movement

African Transformation Movement

The African Transformation Movement (ATM) was created in 2018 with the backing of the South African Council of Messianic Churches in Christ (SACMCC), which together are supported by millions of congregants.

The party is led by Vuyolwethu Zungula. Its chief of policy and strategy at the time was the former Cabinet Spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi.

The party, contesting general election in 2019, called for the return of the death penalty – arguing that this is due to South Africa being abused as a “haven” for people who commit crimes and need a place to evade the law.

It also planned to scrap low pass marks in public schools.

ATM won two seats in the National Assembly and two other seats in Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

Founded in Matatiele on December 12, 2005,[2] the AIC was a protest against the location of the area within the boundaries of the Eastern Cape province rather than KwaZulu-Natal as a result of the 12th Amendment of the Constitution of South Africa put forward by the ANC government. The disputed boundary change went to court; it was eventually confirmed by the 13th Amendment of the Constitution of South Africa.
