There is nothing sinister or any internal fighting around the resignation of four Patriotic Alliance (PA) Members of Parliament.
This is according to a member of the party’s National Executive Committee Charles Cilliers.
After just five months, four out of the nine PA MPs have recently resigned.
Among them the youngest ever Member of Parliament, 22-year-old Cleo Wilskut.
Other PA MPs who resigned are Katrina de Bruin, Stacey-Lee Khojane and Gavin Franklin Jonas.
Cilliers says the MPs willingly heeded the call for resignations when requested to do so by the party leadership,
“We have high party discipline, very proud of members heeding our requests. When I say there is nothing strange about it, it is not as result of any particular incident or bad blood or any kind of punishment or any of that. All of these people continue to be members of the party and will continue to have jobs.”
Cilliers says the replacement for these MPs has already been decided, as well as who will replace them.
“We have PA national chair, Marlon Daniels, Saintes van Wyk been with us all these years, Raatiqah Taggodien in Cape Town City Council, she will be going there and as leader from North West, Lorato Mothopa, those are the four people.”
