The Free State office of the Public Protector has confirmed that it will assess corruption complaints against Free State Premier Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae and her husband who is the Mangaung Metro Speaker, Laurence Mathae.
In a letter addressed to ActionSA provincial leader Patricia Kopane, the office has acknowledged receipt of the complaints.
The office will also conduct a preliminary assessment to determine whether or not the allegations fall within its jurisdiction.
The outcome will be made known within 10 working days of issuing the letter of acknowledgment.
ActionSA, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) want the premier to be investigated for alleged corruption, money laundering, and abuse of public funds.
This is in relation to a road construction tender.
