The Free Democrats (FREE DEMS) is a South African political party founded by neurologist Dr. Johan Reid to lobby for private healthcare. Free Dems are opposed to the government’s proposed National Health Insurance.
The party is in favour of free enterprise, privatisation, private education and lower taxes. In its vision, each citizen would have a medical aid “administered by the medical aid industry” and funded by a payroll deduction.
